Alwar city is the district headquarters of Alwar district and is located at 27° 34' North Latitude and 76° 35' East Longitude at a height of 270 meters above sea level. The district is spread across 8380 sq km area. It is surrounded by the Aravali hills from all sides which protect it from the sandy and hot winds coming from the Thar desert.
River Ruparail is the major river of the district because of which there is an extensive range of flora and fauna available in the region.
Being the district headquarters of the district, Alwar city is well-connected to major cities of the state and county via roads and railways. The distance between Delhi and Alwar is around 160 km while that of Alwar and Jaipur is 150 km. The railway network connects Alwar to a number of important cities like Jodhpur, Mumbai etc. The city shares its borders with Gurgaon (Haryana) in the north, Dausa in the south, Jaipur in the south-west and Bharatpur in the north-east.
Recently, Alwar city has been declared to be a part of the national capital region (NCR) because of which there has been a considerable development in the district.
